Since it is unavoidable, it is even more crucial to frequently take intentional breaks in between tasks to perform a few eye exercises. In today's technologically advanced society, we spend the entire day looking at screens. It makes sense that they might experience visual issues, dry eyes, headaches, and even nervousness given how strained and under pressure they are all the time. Eye workouts ease eye strain, strengthen the eye muscles, speed up visual reaction time, improve cognitive function, and even help your eyes look better.

Eye Exercise to Try During Study Breaks

Eye Muscle Exercise 

Regular eye muscle exercise is a good way to maintain your visual health and practice developing elastic eyesight. Look as far as you can out a window. This enhances your peripheral vision.

  • Look as far away from a window as you can.
  • Look away and concentrate on nothing.
  • Unwind your eyes.
  • Regain awareness of what is in front of you.
  • Every 90 minutes, practice this by focusing on a distant object.

Smooth Pursuit Stimulus

This eye workout enables the retina to stabilize movement on visual targets. It only needs a pen and a pal.

  • Do not move your head.
  • To shift a pen from left to right, ask a pal.
  • Keep your eyes glued to the moving pen.
  • Ten times go through with this drill.

Coordination & Zooming 

This practice improves your ability to focus on up-close things while strengthening your eye-hand coordination.

  • Keep your thumb in the area between your eyes and nose.
  • Focus on the tip of your thumb as you slowly pull the thumb away.
  • Focus on what is behind your thumb once it has reached its furthest point.
  • Return the thumb to its original place.
  • Ten times, repeat.

Make Figure 8

Your ability to physically control how your eyes move will improve as you practice the figure-8.

  • Keep your finger raised. Draw a figure eight at eye level while looking at your fingernail.
  • As the finger moves, keep both of your eyes fixed on it.
  • Make sure your finger is on the border of your face and isn't too far away.
  • After 30 seconds, repeat in the opposite direction.
  • If you feel queasy or lightheaded, stop and take a break.

The Eye Roll

Regular use of eye roll exercises can assist to strengthen the eye muscles and improve the appearance of your eyes.

  • Sit or stand straight. Maintain a calm posture with your neck straight and your eyes forward.
  • Roll your eyes slowly up to the ceiling after looking to the right.
  • Roll your gaze downward, first to the left, then downward toward the ground.
  • Both clockwise and counterclockwise motions should be used.

The Rub Down

This is a favorite of mine. Even if you use contact lenses, you can still perform this activity.

  • Put your hands together quickly until they feel warm, whether you're standing or sitting comfortably.
  • Put a palm over each eyelid while your eyes are closed. Think about how the warmth is affecting your eyes.
  • Keep in mind not to press your palms directly against your eyes.

The Eye Press

  • Sit upright, breathe deeply, and relax your eyes.
  • Approximately 10 seconds should be spent lightly pressing each eyelid.
  • After roughly two seconds of pressure release, apply a little pressure once more.

Eye Massage

This exercise reduces eye strain and dryness.

  • Straighten your back and relax your shoulders.
  • Make sure your eyes are closed and your head is tilted back.
  • Apply gentle pressure to the eyelids with your middle and index fingers.
  • The left fingers should be moved clockwise, while the right fingers should be moved counterclockwise.
  • Before altering the circular motion's direction, repeat the previous 10 times.

Blink

Staring at a computer or smartphone screen nonstop can cause eye and brain tiredness. We frequently forget to blink, which leads to this. Here is a simple exercise to help you address this issue.

  • Take a seat comfortably, keep your neck and shoulders erect, and gaze at an empty wall.
  • Shut your eyes.
  • Open your eyes after holding for 30 seconds.
  • To finish one set, repeat it ten times.

Tips For Good Eye Health

Here are some foods to eat and steer clear of to keep your eyes healthy

  • Increase your consumption of foods high in beta-carotene and lycopene, or take supplements that are high in vitamin A.
  • Wash your eyes properly each day with cool water or rosewater to maintain good eye hygiene. Rose water, especially in the summer, works well to lessen eye strain and itching.
  • Without first cleaning your hands, avoid touching the eyes.
  • Keep an eye on your contact lenses' condition.
  • When going outside in the sun, try to limit your exposure to the sun and use UV-protective clothing, such as a hat or sunglasses.
